1. Policy Statement
At House of Caradog, we recognise our responsibility to protect the environment, operate ethically, and contribute positively to our community. As part of the UK’s commitment to achieving net zero by 2050, we are dedicated to reducing our environmental footprint, promoting social responsibility, and maintaining economic resilience within the hospitality industry.
Our goal is to provide outstanding guest experiences while operating in a way that conserves natural resources, supports local communities, and ensures a sustainable future for generations to come.
2. Purpose
This policy outlines our approach to sustainability across all aspects of our business — from energy use and waste management to sourcing, community engagement, and staff development. It provides a framework for continuous improvement and compliance with UK legislation and international sustainability standards.
3. Scope
This policy applies to:
- All employees, contractors, suppliers, and partners of House of Caradog
- All hotel operations, including accommodation, food and beverage, housekeeping, maintenance, and administration.
- All locations operated or managed by House of Caradog
4. Our Commitments
a. Environmental Protection
We are committed to minimising the environmental impact of our operations by:
- Energy efficiency: Monitoring and reducing energy consumption through efficient systems, LED lighting, and renewable energy sources where possible.
- Water conservation: Installing low-flow fixtures and encouraging guests and staff to use water responsibly.
- Waste reduction: Implementing recycling programmes, composting organic waste, and reducing landfill waste in line with the UK Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011.
- Plastic reduction: Eliminating single-use plastics and offering refillable or biodegradable alternatives.
- Sustainable transport: Encouraging guests and staff to use public transport, cycling, or electric vehicles, with EV charging points where possible.
- Pollution control: Managing cleaning products, chemicals, and wastewater in compliance with the Environment Act 2021 and local water authority standards.
b. Responsible Sourcing
We strive to procure goods and services that meet high environmental, ethical, and quality standards by:
- Prioritising UK-based and local suppliers to reduce transportation emissions and support the local economy.
- Choosing products that are Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance, organic, or otherwise sustainably certified.
- Preferring seasonal, locally produced food and beverages.
- Avoiding materials linked to deforestation, animal cruelty, or unethical labour practices.
- Ensuring all suppliers comply with the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and our Anti-Slavery Policy.
c. Social Responsibility and Community
We are committed to making a positive social impact by:
- Providing safe, fair, and inclusive working conditions for all employees.
- Supporting staff wellbeing, development, and progression.
- Partnering with local charities, schools, and community groups.

d. Guest Engagement
We believe our guests are key partners in sustainability. We will:
- Encourage participation in linen and towel reuse programmes.
- Provide recycling and waste separation facilities in guest areas.
- Communicate our sustainability initiatives clearly and transparently.
- Offer locally sourced and sustainable food, drink, and experiences.
- Inspire guests to explore the local area responsibly and respectfully.
e. Governance and Continuous Improvement
We are committed to continuous improvement by:
- Setting measurable environmental and social performance targets.
- Monitoring progress and reviewing results annually.
- Complying with all relevant UK environmental legislation and best practice guidance (including DEFRA and the Environment Agency).
- Pursuing sustainability certifications such as Green Tourism or Green Key.
- Training all staff to understand and support sustainable practices in their roles.
5. Roles and Responsibilities
- General Manager: Oversees implementation of the Sustainability Policy and ensures compliance with UK laws and internal standards.
- Department Heads: Integrate sustainability measures into departmental operations and monitor progress.
- All Employees: Are expected to act responsibly, follow this policy, and contribute to the hotel’s sustainability initiatives.
6. Communication
This policy will be communicated to all staff, suppliers, contractors, and business partners. It will also be made available to guests via our website, in-room information, and on-site materials. Regular updates and progress reports will be shared internally and externally to demonstrate transparency and accountability.
7. Review
This policy will be reviewed annually to ensure it remains relevant, effective, and aligned with emerging best as they evolve.
